The Pretty False Intellectuals.
Why do we
ever write or read a novel? Is it to show someone that we are capable or
reading or writing? Is it to satisfy inherent passion towards literature? Is it
to earn money or Pulitzer, Noble Peace, Booker Prizes? Do we need to satisfy
the readers or to satisfy ourselves? What is the prime motto? Are we contributing to
the world or to only ourselves? Does our work show satisfaction or
dissatisfaction? Are we happy after, before or during the reading of the book
by ourselves as well as the readers? If any of these questions arise in your
mind prior to the purchase of this book
I would recommend to stay as far as possible to this utterly ridiculous false
work of a desperate dispassionate unethical cynical woman.
The only
thing the author of The Lowland cared is to portray dissatisfaction and hatred
along the way the characters in this novel travel. The story is just plain
simple as our life goes with fictional
intellectuals scattered all round the world not knowing what knowledge really
means or to utilize it their benefit or to the benefit of others. The entire
novel is a delightful hotchpotch of beautiful landscapes, Slums, Beaches, Palm
Springs, Vermillion, Naxalbari Uprising, The principles of communism, Mao,Marx,Lenin,
Literature,Metaphysics, Schopenhauer and other stuff that stimulate the Green
Card holders still having their dual citizenship. I mean do we need all this
stuff. Isn't available on the open source, are you completely out of imagination
only to be dependent on unfortunate reality.
Given the span
of the novel one expects a subtle with genuine characters that somehow one can
correlate with, but to our surprise what we get is a self-sustained individuals
seriously craving for love only to realize the lust behind it and to hate
themselves at a later stage. After the act of repentance only they could do is concentrate more on their academics
to write a book , to research on something, to create love or to go back to the
only place in the world that made them who they are. No Seriously mam you lost
your every right to land in our place due to your supreme intelligence which is
a sheer waste considering the outcomes of it because we are concerned in a
collective growth but not in homosexuality and acts that are unnatural so as to
prove that we are capable of dominating orthodoxy. The 370 pages of the work looks more like a thesis(that the author feels so certain about winning) rather than a joy to read.
At times we
like the characters in the book but its temporary until the author fails them
through her inconsistent methods of life. There is a point where we get a
liking for the Character Bela(The daughter of Subhash) due to her hardworking
and innovative ways of cultivation but it is ruined by the author when she
introduces Bela’s pregnancy and reluctance to accept the father of her child.
Bela wants to raise the kid on her own, I mean AYFKM we don’t bring kids into
the world since we have the capability and a safe place to live. Is this some
kind of petting? How can we give love to someone if we are uncertain of
ourselves to receive it from someone else? It is best to raise a puppy instead
of giving birth.
The entire book is pointless from the beginning till the end.
Do you need entertainment or something to keep you going thinking that there is
happiness in the world? My suggestion stay away from this work and read comics or eat healthy food. This work only spreads misery, cold-eyed romance, wrong thinking, resentment, stupidity.
None of the characters in the book are worth remembering they only make you
feel sorry for themselves and yourselves for reading about them. Finally Mam in
your own words You are as dead to me as Udayan. This is my first and last read
of the works of Jhumpa Lahiri The Pretty False Intellectual. I now realize that
winning a Pulitzer Prize is as easy as shitting in your restroom.
